Jerry Richardson lands his first teaching *** in Shiprock, New Mexico. But this depressed corner of the Navajo Reservation is no place for a 24-year old African-American man eager to change the world, or is it? After surviving a near fatal accident, he decides to stay. He then inherits the girl's losing basketball team.
