Terry and Peter Ctilwell enjoy a close friendship with their next-door neighbours Donna and Hank Bolen. Their children have grown up running through each other's houses and both families have shared their joys and sorrows. However, when the Ctilwells' six-year-old son Casey drowns in the Bolens' unsupervised swimming pool, the tragedy threatens to tear their friendship apart.
